How is creativity consciousness different from productivity consciousness? (and why is it so essential to learn the difference?)

Here’s a spooky thought for Halloween month - most of us are raised, educated, and employed in cultures that are steeped in the beliefs, mindsets and values of industrial productivity, and that celebrate hyper-productivity as the highest aspiration. Which would be no problem if human beings were machines… but we are not. (It also made more sense when we were living in an industrial economy…which we now are decidedly not.)

We are nature, and our nature is to create, but many of us find ourselves continually shoving aside our own deepest needs in favor of our to-do-lists and chronic busyness. Or - and this is BIG - we make creative commitments that really matter to us, only to be blindsided by a tsunami of guilt when we actually turn our attention to those projects.

How do we learn to tell the difference between the ethos of productivity and the ethos of creativity? And, critically, how can we find our way back to creator consciousness when productivity thinking is so deeply ingrained? I have some thoughts. Let’s talk!
